At the center of the enchanting rolling fields, resided a young shepherd. His existence was mostly unadulterated, simple, and honest. His primary duty was mainly to care for his herd of sheep.
Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the wind among the solo tree on the mountaintop were his main companions. Day upon day, looking out for his wards instilled in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.
But, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for company. On one such day because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty plan.
Stories of wild beasts prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.
One afternoon he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw no beast.
The boy laughed at the confusion on their faces. This game persisted for a few days more. But, one click here day, a real wolf actually charge at the herd. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is tough to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
